Today is the first day of Slice of Life challenge. While this is a writing challenge, I am taking it as an opportunity to talk about and show my day in short video clips. Each day I plan to record a three to five minute segment of a different part of my day as a teacher to share out all the small slices that make up what this teacher’s day looks like. Of course, 31 slices won’t nearly be enough to capture all the big and small things a teacher does every day, but, well, this is a challenge for me to look for moments to illuminate.

Why the video? As you can see here, I am also writing, but the video will show the places that I move across and through each day. The video can show my tired eyes because I am using Screencastify and do not know how to add filters or edit — also, I do not have time to edit the recordings. The video will allow me to show some of the documents that I am working on, too, and even show how I create and plan in the moment.

Thank you, Betsy, Beth, Deb, Kathleen, Kelsey, Lanny, Melanie, and Stacey for this weekly forum from Two Writing Teachers. Check out the writers, readers and teachers here.

Interesting! I like the multi-modal idea – and I laughed when I saw your sub plans – mine are equally detailed & I know some people think I’m crazy. Nice to know I’m not alone.

I really like your idea to make this challenge multi-modal! It was cool to see your sub plans, hear your voice, and see you as you started your day. I’m looking forward to following your project this month!
