Inspiration: An epistle is a poem or story in the form of a letter or a series of letters. Try this form for your poem today.

  • Write a letter to your future self, but do not say it is to your future self; instead, start with “Dear Madam President” or “Dear Rockstar” or “Dear Doctor.”
  • Write a letter of gratitude — giving thanks to someone who has helped you or inspired you.
  • Write a letter of apology — to someone you’ve wronged or hurt.
  • Try two letters — letters between two people — two superheros, two friends, two celebrities, two popular athletes, two teens from different parts of the world. What would they talk about — a news issue, their hobbies, favorite foods?

Dear E–,

I am sorry
for the part of me
no one can see.
It is not my nose, my nails, or my knees.
It is not my face, my forearms, or my feet.
I am sorry
for the part of me
alive daydreams
tucked into the folds
of my brow.
Ideas for peace.
Piles of to-reads waiting
Imaginings for stories.
Words to assuage pain.
Lessons to connect.
I am sorry
for the part of me
best of me
that stirs without you
that means
I am not listening
to you.
And for that
I am sorry.
When you catch me staring off into space,
ask me what I’m thinking.
I will gladly bring you into my dream
and the best part of me.

Mike

Im sorry
ive said it a thousand times
you dont care one bit
I messed up, i messed you up, i messed up myself, but most importantly, i messed up something far more important,
that smile of yours that used to light up a room.

Eugenio

Dear N ,
I honestly couldn’t believe you have been there for me for 8-9 years and I’m thankful for having you in my life . Even though your a year older no one, has ever stuck with me so long cause they just leave without any explanation . I trust you and I tell you everything that has happen in my life . Your always there for me and checking up on me . We talk about random things and start planning where are we going to travel and go when we get older . Your like my bestfriend but I never told you . Your always making me laugh but then there’s time where you say something mean , even though your annoying I still love you for who you are . I don’t want to lose you because I need you in my life .

Sincerely , Daraley

Alyssa S.

I loved how you wrote all of the things your mom has down for you. For example, “Thank you for all your support, Thanks for putting food in my stomach, Thanks for putting a shelter over my head.”

valeria

Your words- “You’ve been though a lot, And me not doing good in school can make you disappointed, But just thanks for loving me” really moved me because although a that it ends with thanks for loving me.

Are you immortalized?
What have you done with your life?
Did you thank your mom and dad for everything they’ve done?
But most of all…
Who are you as a person?

aliyah

To the people who were annoying,
For teaching me to ignore your false comments.

Jeannie

Dear Crush,
I know you know I like you
And I know you’re in 8th grade and I’m in 7th

i hope you have a girlfriend that makes you happy

Tomas

Dear Someone
There is someone
There is a shoulder to cry on
There is a turn for help
Find that person
And keep that person with you
Life will hit you hard if you are not ready

McKinley

A part that I can relate to is when it says “Life will hit you hard if you are not ready.” I wasn’t ready for it and it did hit hard. Nice poem!

Ricardo

Dear Something,
Hopefully everything’s alright
Maybe you’re actually successful
You better be smiling
No sadness
No darkness
Only positivity
Well
There better be more positive thoughts
Rather than negative thoughts
Sorry for everything
Sorry for who I am at the moment

Rieley

dear best friend,
you are the best thing in my life
you stay with me no matter what
my shoulder to cry on
my lifeline
you are hilarious
and beautiful
thank you
for everything

Jasmine Plata

Dear my best friends mom,
thank you so much for letting
my
best
friend into this world.
Thank you so much for
helping
my best friend be the best she can be.
Your daughter has been there through
thick,
and
thin.
She has taught me what a loyal, nice, kind, faithful and
oh yeah,
and a
VIOLENT friend.
Thank you for giving my best friend a role model.
She has made me put a stupid grin on my face
when I have been down.
She is one of the only people who understands me.
Sincerely,
your daughter best friend, oh and the reason your daughter come homes making all these dumb puns.

Claudia

Dear best friend,
Thank you for sticking by me through the rough times
Thank you for making me happy
When i thought i would never smile again
You were there
When i felt like the whole world was against me
You help me get through life
With a smile on my face
Even though we have ups and downs
We stay in each others lives
No matter what
So thank you
For everything you have done

Anna

To all the characters in my story,

I want to thank you all for being here.
For showing up sometime in my life.
Whether you were here for a while or just for one conversation.
Each time you showed up you helped
shape me, and
change me
into who I am.

Maybe you were someone who laughed as a cried,
or maybe you were there to wipe away my tears.
I might have despised you
or loved you,
but
you were still there.

So anytime you happened to take a chapter in the book,
I want to thank you for having it
because without it,
My story wouldn’t even exist.

louie

dear future Louie,
i am not sorry at all bro
look at you man you rich, you got hella girls and you probably have a big house somewhere
but look all those people who said you wouldn’t make it or you would have to go to collage
i mean hopefully you went to collage but you know what i’m proud of you cause of all those times people said if you become famous and rich you always said its not an if its a definitely i am gonna be rich look at you even estefani said that if we get married and have kids i hope that next time she says that you’ll say its not an if OK its a definitely
from,
present Louie
P.s you better have bought mom that house with a farm she always wanted that

louie

i can relate when he said ” i’m proud of you cause of all those times people said if you become famous and rich you always said its not an if its a definitely i am gonna be rich” cause i said that today and i am Louie

Kevin H

Dear The future Kevin,
Im sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry
You might not read this future Kevin but if you do Im sorry
Im sorry for all tough time I put you threw
Im sorry for all the stuff that has happened to you
Just know to keep going
Im sorry for making you be friends with SOME people that are fake
But you know what I am not sorry for because I at least gave you good people in you’re life
And because I made you be good at soccer
Thanks for reading my poem future Kevin
If you actually read it

Anette

Dear myself,
I am sorry for all of the tough times i have put you through,
These times were people took advantage of you,
Not getting any respect when you gave them some,
Being nice to people and treating them nice but all you got back was getting treated like trash,
Im sorry because you dont know who your true friends are because they talk behind your back now,
Im sorry you always see the good in people,
But most of all im sorry that your an easy target,

Kaci

I can relate to the part when you said “people took advantage of you” because I have been in situations where people think that because they know a deep part of me, that they can use it to control me.

Kinga

Dear future jockey
I know you won’t ever get to be one, but even so
In your mind you can do so much, that it may even slightly feel like a reality
I hope you’ll be able to feel wind blowing everywhere around your body
And that you’ll be able to see a tall, muscular four legged creature that can run until the day is done
Will maybe be able to seem more real than the ones on a touch screen or a sheet of thin paper
I hope you won’t have to look at them sadly
knowing it’s hopeless and impossible
even so
maybe
One day
just once
feel as free as a jockey

Jarely Alavez

Dear Joanna,
You are my blood, my happiness, and best friend
You have taught me to preserve and for that I am thankful
You make me more clam and fun when I feel like I’m drowning
You are strong and that makes me strong
You always make me feel smart and beautiful
Having you in my life is my steady hand

Ruby

Dear person I hurt,
I really didn’t mean to hurt you in any way
The reason I left is because you had a lot
to worry about and a lot of drama
that I knew would fire back at you
and I didn’t want to get involved
thankfully
You forgave me
but I know that You wished
I had stayed with you
During that dramatic moment
but I warned you
that I wouldn’t
be involved in problems that
I never caused
sorry not sorry!?!:/

Sophia

I like the use of a diverse opinion of the topic and making a poem out of the story.

Colin M

Dear Family

I want to thank you for being their for me
Through all the ups and downs in my life
And when ever i’m down you guys always try to pick me up
You guys are always by my side on the decisions I make
I’m really grateful to call them family

Thank you

McKinley Gebhards

I hurt you
I never wanted to admit

By stealing the last fudge bar
I know you really wanted it

It was in the box freezer all this time
Hiding away from you

Until the freezer was left open
And turned the last fudge bar into stew

Anette

same i took the last fudge bar once, knowing that my brother wanted it

erik palacios

Ariana

Dear Dad
It’s hard to be without a dad all the time
Seeing others kids with a normal family
With a mom and dad
Listening to the stories they told me
How bad you were
You didn’t want to deal with me
I mean I can’t really blame you for leaving me
There isn’t much I could give
I guess that you didn’t love me enough
If you did you would’ve stayed
Maybe it wasn’t so hard for you to leave me
I never wanted to see you
Until that one day that my mom brought me to you
I went
I saw you
I didn’t feel anything when I saw you
You were just a stranger
A stranger with my genes
And maybe you think about me
And yes I think of you from time to time
But seeing you that day made me realize something
I realized I don’t want you
I don’t need you
And sadly you didn’t want me either
So now we are even
I don’t miss you anymore
In fact I never really did
I’m sorry I guess

Mik Mieczkowski

Dear Joe, (5/16/2004)
It has been several days since the last time I have went outside.
I have been bundled up in my basement, all alone, with no communication.
I understand there is no immediate threat, but just you wait until the infection starts to spread.
You’ll see. You’ll all see.
I’m in desperate need of water. Please send some to my house. Zombies can’t read so I know it will be you.
Dear Frank, (4/1/2097)
I have just received your letter. I realize you have probably perished from thirst, but at least it wasn’t by the hands of a zombie. By the way, there are no zombies. APRIL FOOLS! HAHA.

Kaitlyn

Dear ???,

I wonder what came of you,
Did you do all the things you wanted to
I wonder what the future holds
Or how your plans will unfold

Did you finally hit that homerun?
Or find that special someone?
Did you go to college?
Have you been acknowledged?

Northwestern or Vanderbilt, did you get in?
Did your college softball career ever begin?
How long did you play softball?
Did you give it your all?

Do you have any regrets?
Did you make a silly bet?
Oh and did you ever get a pet?

These thoughts they wander through my mind
As I sit here and watch the time
One day I’ll become this person
But I can’t be certain
Of who I’ll be
I guess only time will tell me.

Sincerely,
Kaitlyn

Jarely Alavez

I noticed that you used rhyming as a technique in your poem like” Do you have any regrets? Did you make a silly bet,” This was effective becuase it makes your poem different from everyone else’s and make your poem mysterious.

Alex

Dear whoever i become i just want to remind you to be normal be fun don’t dry up don’t become boring don’t become the cliche adult be the normal us random, smart, funny, cool, unique don’t lose that your individuality is important you cant lose it do what you think is right not what others tell you unless its your boss you kinda have to listen but just remember be YOU

Nico

When my parents got divorced
I didn’t think it was a big deal
Because i saw them both every day
I still don’t think its a big deal
because they talk every day
me and my brother see them both almost every day
it’s not that big of an issue

Manny V

dear anger,

I know its not often your here with me
I mostly have you controlled
sometimes you’re here
sadness comes if you come
when you get to my head I go crazy
but sadness is there to let it all out
Anger is not my enemy
it’s just a way of me letting things out

Sophia

I can relate to your poem because it captures emotion and the feeling of anger which everyone has

Jane

Dear Ena,
don’t let go of the rope.
Until you feel the pain more than your will.
If your hand starts bleeding,
wrap the rope around your hand,
so it stops bleeding.
Look at the reason why you are holding on to the rope.
Its gone?
Then why are you still holding on to it.
It hurts, its painful.
I know.
So please let go.
Close your eyes and let go.

Sophia

Dear Best friend,
You may or may not be reading this but I hope you are
Every day of sadness is brighten by the sight of your happy smile and fun spirit
When I’m losing at life there’s no one I would rather talk too
You listen with an open ear no matter is you care
You act like you do, and that is an act but I am thankful for it
I consider you a necessity in my life just as water or food is to someone
I sometimes wonder if I put to much trust in you, that I could lose everything if you hated me
Than I think I am not in a one way relationship, you feel the same way about me as I do you
I have no words or expressions to explain the trust I confide in you and everyday I am so happy that you were there for me that one day, and never left

Alonzo

Sophia your poem was really good I really like it!!!

Lucas

Dear professional athlete,
Right now life must be easy. You make tons of money, you get to do what you love, and you are adored and envied by so many people across the world, but it hasn’t always been that easy. You have tried so hard to get there. Training, practicing, improving in all you can, and you have had to deal with so much: family, friends, school, expectations. I want to remind you of how hard you trained and what you did to get where you are now, because it may be easy right now and a life so many have wished to have and so many have failed in trying to get is now yours. Now this may not come true, but it is my dream and what I want to do.
sincerely,
You

Rieley

until i read, ¨ dear professional athlete.¨ i never considered that you could do that. now i still don´t see

Christina

Dear Rosa, I wanna thankyou for leaving me as a child, I wanna thankyou for never checking up on me, I wanna thankyou for making me feel like I was never wanted, & most importantly I thankyou for leaving me because with out you my life is everything I could’ve ever wished for , & I can promsie you anything you will never be labeled a “Mom” to me because what type of mother leaves their child, ??!

Melody

Dear unknown person, I am sorry. I don’t make the best choices socially, and can cause drama. Though it isn’t my plan I have wronged whoever this is to, and for that I apologize. Decisions can be bad, and go wrong. Even if it all started with good intentions, things don’t always turn out as planned. That being the reason why this paragraph exists. Why the words here are in this order to create this meaning. An apology, to those of whom I’ve wronged and hurt.

Alex

Very Honest i really like that I also like how you apologize i find that kinda funny

Brenda

Dear Senpie,
You give me the courage,
To do the things I want to do,
You give advice,
To guide me in life,
I will always be waiting,
To get the chance to meet you,
I’ll be the happiest person alive if I do,
Thank you for giving me motivation,
And the adventure that you gave me,
I can’t wait when we meet in our re-carnation,
Thank You for being there for me,
when nobody else was,
Thank You

Matt

Dear Accountant,
Being an accountant takes hard work.
You will have to give your best effort in order to do it.
I know you can do it though.
Just keep trying and you will reach your goal.

Lucas

I like how you described the journey to your career.

Hello

I’m sorry
Sorry I treated you the way I did
Sorry I kept it all in
Sorry I cared for you
Sorry I fell in love with you
Sorry you gave up
Im sorry

Thank you!

Kevin

I don’t know how to put this in words or how to put it in a poem at least
But I like to say thank you to all those people and all those teachers and all those students
You know who you are when you’re reading this
Well yeah I like to say thanks you to all those people that were actually there when I fell down
I like to say thank you to ll those teachers that said “Kevin you can do it’
And those teachers that actually believed

Lauren

Dear Riley, my cousin,
I’m sorry about my behavior on Sunday, it was disrespectful and unlike me to ignore you. It was not my intention to make you feel bad and it probably brought back bad memories from when Elizabeth. It was selfish of me to vent my emotions at you when I was dealing with something else. I hope that you can forgive me.
Your Favorite Cousin,
Lauren C. Ratajczak 😉

Emma N.

Letter to my past
Dear old self,
I’m sorry that I ever compared you to other people
I’m sorry that I ever made you feel useless
I’m sorry that you were robbed
Robbed of your happiness
Because
You thught that nothing got better
I’m sorry for not having faith in you
And
I’m sorry for sharing this with the world

Claudia

i like how you wrote to your past self. I really liked how you kept saying sorry and that she was robbed of her happiness. I think this is very powerful

Rebecca padilla

Dear old self,
I’m sorry that I used to have no faith in you
I’m sorry that I always got mad at you
For getting angry at the universe for making you
For being ashamed of you
Though, I never realized without you
I wouldn’t be me
Today
So now, thank you
For without your mistakes
And lessons learned
I wouldn’t be where I am today

izzy sernel

Dear friends,

Thank you for pushing me to be a better person
through all the great times we share.
Thank you for supporting me like a wall
I know I can always count on you to have something to lean on.
Thank you for showing nothing but love
you always know how to make me feel better.
Thank you for encouraging me
without out it I wouldn’t be able to do anything.
Thanking you for your advice
that always leads me on the right path.
Thank you for being my friends
for everything you do.

Love, Izzy

Rebecca Padilla

I really like this poem appreciation for your friends, when you said ¨Thank you for supporting me like a wall¨ it made me think that without my friends supporting me where I would be today.

Kayla M

Dear Basketball pro,
I want you to look around
notice who was there for you through it all
The pain, the hurt, the set backs, the road blocks
the accomplishment, the pleasure, the goal
never lose sight of the ones who kept you going through the tears
cause those are the ones who you will pick up just as much as they did you
so do me a favor and thank your mom

Emma N.

I really like how you wrote this. It isn’t even like a letter. (In a good way.) I really just sounds like you are talking to yourself.

Elicia

I’m sorry
for everything.

Sorry for coming into your life.
Sorry for making everything worse for you.

You know I never meant it.
But I don’t know why I’m apologizing actually.

It’s not my fault
and it’s not yours.

We both made the mistake
of texting each other.

We should’ve just stayed
out of each others life.

So I’m sorry for everything,
but you should be sorry too.

Anathea Cyr-Flessner

Poem 8: Letter

Dear my crush,

Yo, waz good how are you? You Probably have no idea how much you mean to me, and you probably wouldn’t care cause you will never love me the way that I love you. You’re the reason I’m still alive, you keep me going. I am most comfortable with you. You’re the only person I feel safe around. I love you more than anything in the world. You turn rain into rainbows, you give my life flavor. Ya I make a lot of stupid mistakes with my life, but loving you is not one. “I will always love you” Yes I just quoted Whitney Houston to you. I will never be satisfied unless you’re in my life. So go on and love someone else just know that you are in my thoughts and my prayers. I love you.

Jessica Arl

Dear Mom,

For the past eight years
Since heaven took him away
You have been our rock
Single-mother
Working
Only for the best
For all three of us
Thank you
For being you
For being protective
For being there
I owe you the world
And it starts with this

izzy sernel

I thought it was really sweet how you wrote to your mom. My favorite part was when you said “you have been our rock” it really showed the strength your mom has to have after losing your dad.

Maddie Flowers

Thanks

For giving me something to look forward to
For lending your shoulder for me to cry on
For picking me up when times are tough
For treating me with the most respect
For making me hurt from laughing
For always telling me the truth
For never letting me give up
For smiling just for me
For giving me advice
For just being you

Chessie Lemke

It sounds like you are very thankful for someone special in your life. I like the way you explained how you thank them. I also like how you used repetition of the word “for” in your poem.

Jillian

I love your use of anaphora. It makes the poem seem a lot more serious and thought out.

Uma Patel

Dear brother,
You may be 8 years older than me,
but that difference,
doesn’t keep us apart,
Instead,
it has made us closer,
I want to thank you,
for being such a great role model,
and striving for greatness,
And hopefully,
Your 12 year old sister,
will be following your footsteps

Armaan Athwal

Dear Mom thank you so much for everything you have done for me throughout the 13 years I have Lived. You’re one of the most important people to me because you keep me pushing through everyday of my life. Not only that you have tought me through the rights and wrongs of life. Last thing to say is how much I appreciate you from all the big things to little things you have done for me.

Gabrielle

Dear sister, I need you to understand that you mean a lot to me even though I don’t show it sometimes. You might annoy me and I might annoy you but I hope you know I love you. You pick me up from school and you help me though the year. There is no better friend that I could have asked for. I hope you know I love you.

Kaci

Dear person,
I don’t know who you are,
I don’t know what you turned out to be,
Who you are with,
I know not of where you live,
Where you plan to go,
But I can hope of those things.
I hope you are a kind person who accepts everyone,
That you have made a life for yourself,
That you are with someone you love,
And please, dear god, that you’re not living in your parents house.
I hope that you live somewhere sunny and warm,
and that you travel the world,
but you have to remember that you are different from now.
You changed and you are probably never going to want to turn back.
I am the old version of you that still hasn’t gotten over one of the biggest hurdles we’ve made for us.
You have.
Maybe.
And for that I give you my utmost respect.
Even though I barley know you, I look up to you.
You are proof that I will get over this,
that I will conquer this obstical,
that my brain will never stop me.
Thank you for being there.
Sincerely,
You

Gabrielle

I like how you made the poem so the people reading the poem felt it was for them

Friendship
Friendship means sticking
Together
Through the good times
And the tough times
Friends will always stay by your side
No matter
What problems you must
Face

Dropping your lunch on the cafeteria floor
3 knots to the left
Helping clean up the mess together
4 knots to the right

Forgetting a number two pencil for the big test
2 knots to the left
Lending them one of yours
3 knots to the right

Fighting over a guy
6 knots to the left
Realizing that he’s not worth losing your best friend
9 knots to the right

Losing a family member
12 knots to the left
Listening and offering a shoulder to cry on
13 knots to the right

Sometimes the good things in life
out number
The bad things
And friends will always be there to
pull you back up
When life hits you hard in the face

Dear Perseverance,
Thank you for helping me,
I could not endure anything,
Without you.

Armaan Athwal

Hi Ben I liked how you choosed perserverance as a person to right to for being thankful, and also I can relate to to this poem because I am also thankful for perserverance because it helps me to.

Dylan M.

Dear our planet (and atmosphere),
It’s probably been a burden to support over a trillion people on your shores. On you land. Thank you for supporting me, until now and the days to come. Providing us humans and animals with food and water, with minerals and materials to build shelters, and ways to keep us cool during the summer, and warm during the winter. We demand everything, and you always try too provide it to us. Again, thank you for all the hard work on keeping us alive.

-One of your population

Mik Mieczkowski

I like the metaphor you used, about how the planet is a kind of person. When I read “We demand everything, and you always try too provide it to us.” I thought about how humans are destroying the ozone layer, and how the atmosphere is really giving us everything that we need to live. It kind of makes you sad because the atmosphere may not be able to give to us any longer, as we keep destroying it, just like the book “The giving tree”

Colin B

I really like how you wrote to the planet other than a human. It was really clever that you thought that the earth has to go through the things like providing us with life.

Hayden W.

(Letter to my Mom) Dear Mom, thank you for raising me and making me happy. I know it wasn’t easy so I’d like to thank you. Throughout the 13 years I have lived, you have made me very happy. Thank you so much.

Jackson

Dear Retiree,

You have lived a long 96 years. You started out humble at small private schools in nowhere South Carolina and managed to get a full ride to Clemson University to get a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering. Right out of school, you got an internship for a year that paid for food and housing that gave you experience. This allowed you to become a full time chemical engineer the next year and keep this job for fourteen years. You were also a youth leader at a local church for a few years.
During that time, you managed to find a woman who loves you more than you love you, and you had a boy named Johnathon. Then, out of the blue, you decide to go back to school and get a teaching degree and during this time, you get a baby girl, Emily. By the time you’re forty-two, you have a job teaching high school chemistry. Even though some of them were annoying, once they graduated, all of them would come back and thank you for what you had taught them. Of course, teaching is one of the most difficult jobs on the planet so you decide to continue with that career for seventeen years.
Eventually, you get to finally retire at age fifty-nine with a grand retirement fund and a loving, working family. You helped out at your church with your wife and your kids went forth and got prosperous jobs as a lawyer and a dermatologist. Soon, they started families of their own and gave you five grandchildren.
Your life has been so full, that I did not even include all of the side projects and jobs that you acquired. This may be hard to hear, but I think that you should stop fighting now and let your soul free. You have fulfilled what you were crated for.

I Love You,
Your Beloved

Sorry this is late, I’ve been on flights all day it is 11:17 here in Hawaii but I’m still used to EDT right now.
And can you figure out who wrote this letter? There is no right answer but I’m interested to hear what people have to say . There is a line in here that could make it one of two people. But who?

Melany

Letter to my sister, I want to thank you for every single thing you’ve done for me in my life. You always have my back no matter what and you always stick by my side no matter how annoying I can be. You are the most important person in my life and I couldn’t imagine my life without you. Whenever I’m sad you’re always there with open arms. When im happy you somehow find a way to make me even happier. When i’m mad you find away to calm me down. You motivate me to be someone in life and to always work hard in life and I want to thank you for that. You’re life hasn’t been the easiest I guess you can say but you always manage to keep on going. You’re an amazing sister and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love you.

Letter to My Mother
Dear Mom,

How do I begin to tell you how I feel about you,
how you are the one person above all who has given meaning to my life,
who knows what to expect from me,
and who knows when I need that extra hug or kiss?

You have given me hope and inspiration,
trust and faith in me by allowing me to make my own decisions,
giving me space to grow and learn at my own pace,

Showing compassion and tact by expressing concern,
but letting me have space and privacy to work out a problem,
setting the bar high and leading by good example,
by not giving up on me no matter what,

For having the courage to face obstacles
and thereby instilling the same trait in me,

For being my confidante.
I know you are the person I can always turn to.

During your worst times of immense pain,
you continued to fight the fight.
We have always risen ahead.

Motivating me to push myself to do things
I did not think I could do,

For keeping a stiff, upper lip when the world seemed to crumble around you.
This has given me an extra inner strength as well.
By being such a hard worker and a creative individual,
I have followed in your footsteps.
When people take a look at us and say that I am a “mini Jacqui,”
I always realize that this is the highest compliment ever.

You have encouraged me to always seek out and reach
for the highest level in anything I do,
my future career goals will one day be a reality
because of the personal suffering you have experienced because of your cancer.
We came through it together,
and someday I can say that I am an oncologist because I was there for my mom,
and she always has been there for me.

My dearest mother,
I could go on and on about how much I love, respect, admire, and trust you.
I think you know all that I feel when you hold me each night
and we say our “Now I lay me…” together.
Our bond will always remain strong,
and I will always be your little girl looking up to her mommy.

I love you.

Alyssa S.

Dear Pediatrician,

Being a pediatrician has always been your first pick,
You help those who are sick.
You record children’s growth.

Children wait and wait,
To know their height,
Their faces will light up so bright.

The wait is always long for kids,
You know that from when you were a kid,
The kids may cry,
You could tell by their eyes,
Just continue to be kind,
Put yourself into their mind,
Being a pediatrician could be stressful at times,
But just remember,
You’ve been dreaming of this career,
For a lifetime.

From,
A hopeful child of a career as a Pediatrician

Colin B

Dear Gary Hall Jr.
I want to thank you,
for defying the odds.
I want to thank you,
for showing the world what your made of.
Thank you,
for being crowned the fastest swimmer in 2004.
Because when I saw the video clip,
of you winning the gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle,
I knew that even though I’m a diabetic,
I can do anything.
You were diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 24,
while you were in Olympic training,
swimming 50-meters in under 25 seconds.
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t have diabetes,
but you had 23 years of life without it,
and I can’t imagine how that transition must have been.
So I just wanted to thank you.

– Colin Bertrand

Anais

Brother,
it’s been a while since I’ve last seen you
I can imagine the things you must be learning
the people you must be meeting
the battles you are enduring.
I fear everyday
the knock on the door
that will render me so weak
not even my third leg
will keep me standing
I know they will look at us strangely
when again we can meet
you with your skin like snow
and eyes like a colorless crystal globe
they will pinch their lips
and shake their heads
when I hobble to you
but you and I know
wherever we are born is not our home.
I will wait forever if I have to
for you to come back
don’t leave your brother here alone.

My soul bro,
I remember the rivers that formed around our house
when pa
didn’t come back
I remember sitting endlessly in front of that
glossy picture
crying though no tears dripped out my eyes
I will not do that to you.
We are brothers.
I burn and blister in the summer
while you just get darker
I run a play and climb
while you lean on your silver friend
from the sideline.
But we are brothers
we told each other the secrets our mothers did not know
we pushed each other
towards the girls we could never meet alone
we denied the truth of reality together when life couldn’t get any better
we are brothers
though you can go nowhere without your silver shadow
and I am shadowed from everywhere with this suit of camouflaged armor
We are brothers
and our hearts beat louder
than a bomb.

Marissa Teehan

Dear shadow,
You follow me
when I don’t expect you.
It’s a funny thing.
When the light shines I find you,
but in the night you blend in.
I’d wish for brightness in the day,
but that wish is not guaranteed.
Sometimes you are present in the times of dispair.
But it’s important to know how to turn off the lights,
and look into the darkest places for a reminder of joy.
To get rid of your shadow.
That’s what you teach me.
You are my twin.
You are my replica.
Your feet rest on mine.
But there’s one difference:
I control you.
I decide where you go,
when you show up,
and when you vanish.
Because if I was a puppet to the dark,
where would the light go?

Jackiie

You,
Thank you
There’s no words no amount of anything
To thank you
For being with me through it all
My breakdowns
My fits
The sad moments
But most of all
Thank you for being with me in my happy moments
We’ve stuck together for a while
But a lot awaits
I can’t wait to spend it with you.

Emma Nilsson

Success,
I will find you when I am older
We will work together
to make a happy life
We will be friends
I will make people want you
And you will give me all I want
in life
No worries,
E. Nil

Uma Patel

Emma, I liked how you wrote a epistle about success, and how you acknowledged it like a person, by using, phrases like, “We will be friends”.

Manny V

I really like how you used the word success as if it was a person, i like the first line. it makes me imagine as if you were meeting up with him/her in the future. 🙂

Emma

Emma,
I think it’s so clever how you wrote to success! I loved hearing the hopes you have when it comes to that. Your poem is really heart-warming when you talk about “making a happy life”.

Great Job!
E. Bog

Emma Boghossian

Dear Percy Jackson,
Thanks for being
The hero I always
Wanted to be
But never could.

Dear Harry Potter,
Thanks for bringing out
The magic that
I’ve always wanted
But never had.

Dear Katniss Everdeen,
Thanks for fighting for
things I believed in
And wanted stand for
But never did.

Dear my favorite books,
Thanks for speaking
The words of truth
I always wanted to
But never knew how.

Marissa Teehan

Hi Emma, I really like how you compare yourself to the characters in your books. An example of this is when you said, “Thanks for fighting for things I believed in and wanted to stand for but never did.” I think this makes the reader inspired to stand and do the things these characters did. Great job on the poem!

Malik

Dear Dr. Krech,
I hope I can someday be called that,
People will fear me as I walk into the courtroom,
I will have the best tuxedo the world has ever seen,
Right now it’s just a dream,
But someday it will become reality.

Ben Williams

I like how you said that your poem is just a dream but it will be reality someday. It was very thoughtful.

My Future as a Song Artist

Dear JJ,

It would be so cool to live through all the experiences as an artist. I would love to see how much you can grown, the people you can impacted, tour and of course the performances. What a great future you have ahead of you. Work hard and practice everyday to pursue your dream as becoming a song artist.

Growing up you always had a passion for music. You loved singing around the house and playing the viola. It would be such a wonderful thing if you could share your talents with people around the world. You would impacted so many hearts and pour love into your fans. Your music would be well known and play repeatedly on the radio.

Tour has to be amazing. You get to visit so many places and work with other awesome artist. The tour bus would be full with memories. From parties to sleeping, to cooking to songwriting on the road would all happen in a 18 ton vehicle.

Your concerts would be amazing like a shooting star flying over the dark night sky. Your confidence would blow you away as you sang and played in front of millions of people. Your crew could help with set up, lights and sound making the concert magical.

So pursue your dreams. Write song, perform in concerts, go on tour and always have a heart for music. Because you never know when your ears are gonna hear a good beat.

Your formally know 14 year old self

Emma N.

I really like how you said “growing up you always ahd a passion for music” because you were not just looking into the future, but also going back in time. Thank you for sharing.

Nathan N

(Even more cringe!)

Dear poor quality poet
You stink at poetry
Kind of like the smell
Of rotting carcasses

Nathan N

Note: This is a letter to myself 😛

Abigail Zimmerman

Dear Dr. Donovan,

Thank you for everything I’ve learned
In Reading Class.
Every time I pick up a new book,
I know it will be an adventure.
I’ve learned so many lessons
In our books, poems, and speeches
That we’ve read.

Sometimes I’m stressed
Over projects and posts,
But I know that you will help me
And will encourage me to do my best.
Because of that, I am able to achieve
My goals and my plans
And I thank you for that.

Love, Abigail

Erin

I like how you said when you pick up a book you know it will be an adventure, very creative. I bet Mrs Donovan would really appreciate it.

Liam M.

Abigail, you did a very good job on the poem, and i can relate because Dr Donovan has done those things for me too

S. Krech

Very thoughtful poems! Can’t wait to read more!

Erin

I write to say thank you to all those who care about me.
all those who inspire me
who motivate me
who teach me
and who push themselves to help achieve what I care about most.
I will be able to pay them back
by being there for them
when they need a friend
a sister
a daughter
or someone to rely on
by doing this I will achieve the greatest things that life has to give me.

Abigail Zimmerman

Thank you, very inspiring! I love the message.

Liam M.

this is a very good poem, good job Erin

Liam M.

My epistle is a letter of gratitude

I want to thank my parents, my teachers, and my coaches
Because in one way or another they all helped me
And I want to also help them too
by being a good little child

Abigail Zimmerman

Short and sweet! I love it!

Erin

its good that you have a few very important people to you.

Sarah J. Donovan, PhD

Dear Poets–

Wordsworth’s Lucy:
whom there were few to love and none to praise
because she dwelt among untrodden ways.

Mora’s Elena:
embarrassed at mispronouncing words,
embarrassed at the laughter of her children,
Locks herself in the bathroom
to practice English
so that she will not be deaf
when her children need her.

Shihab Nye’s Famous:
wants only to be known
to shuffling men crossing the streets,
to sticky children in grocery lines
–for smiling back.

Wordsworth and Lucy.
Mora and Elena.
Shihab Nye and Famous.
In gratitude, for your verses
Help me see the violet hidden by a mossy stone,
Help me listen to the fear behind the mispronounced words,
Help me be Famous, smiling back in streets and grocery lines.
Oh,the difference to me!

Abigail Zimmerman

I think that it was really creative that you wrote to poets. We do learn many things when we read their poems.

Erin

You were able to use such good detail, really shows emotion.

Liam M.

I like how you wrote a poem about poems, it was a really good idea
