Schedule Professional Development
I mentor ELA middle and secondary teachers who are working toward writing workshop, developing classroom libraries, making time for choice reading, doing more narrative feedback, including and practicing spoken word, rethinking assessment practices, using portfolios, and reading emotionally-charged literature such as stories of genocide. I offer ideas and resources to support teachers as they make powerful shifts in their practice.
We all learn best by doing or practicing alongside a mentor who has experience and patience. The teacher-workshop is based on the theories that inform ethical literacy instruction and experiences, but the actual workshop is all experiential. Teachers write, read, discuss, create, and feel the learning — experiences that are immediately applicable to the classroom tomorrow.
